Proactive Dental Care

Prevent Problems Before They Start

Preventive care is the key to maintaining a healthy, confident smile. At Kemp Dentistry, we provide gentle and thorough routine care, including exams, cleanings, and early detection of dental issues before they become serious.

Schedule your visit today to keep your smile strong, healthy, and protected for years to come.

ARESTIN® - Gum Disease Treatment

Periodontal disease is a serious infection beneath the gum line. ARESTIN® (minocycline hydrochloride) is an antibiotic placed directly into infected gum pockets after scaling and root planing to target bacteria where brushing and flossing can’t reach.

It begins working quickly at the source of infection and continues fighting bacteria for up to 30 days, helping improve results beyond scaling and root planning alone.

CHILDREN’S DENTISTRY

The first dental visit is usually quick, gentle, and focused on helping your child feel comfortable. We’ll examine their teeth and gums, and may take X-rays if needed to check development and detect early issues. A light cleaning and fluoride treatment may also be provided. Our team will also guide you on proper brushing, diet, and daily habits to support your child’s oral health at home. Preparing your child with a positive attitude like you would for a first haircut can make a big difference. Talking about the visit in a reassuring way and avoiding negative language helps build confidence and ease.
Preventive care plays a key role in keeping your child’s smile healthy. Regular exams, cleanings, fluoride treatments, and sealants help protect against cavities and other issues. Limiting sugary snacks, encouraging brushing and flossing, and choosing healthy foods can further reduce the risk of decay. Baby teeth are important for chewing, speech, and guiding permanent teeth into place. Most children develop a full set of 20 baby teeth by age 2–3, with permanent teeth beginning to appear around age 5–6, making early care essential for long-term oral health.

DEEP TEETH CLEANING

Deep teeth cleaning (scaling and root planing) is a non-surgical treatment for gum disease that removes plaque and tartar from below the gum line. Dr. Syed Iqbal may recommend it after an exam to reduce inflammation, clean deep pockets, and prevent disease progression. The process includes scaling to remove buildup and root planing to smooth the roots and promote healing.

This treatment helps protect against tooth loss, reduce bad breath, and improve overall oral health. In some cases, antibiotics may be used to control infection, and further treatment may be needed if deep pockets persist.

DENTAL EXAMS & CHECK UPS

Dental exams and checkups are essential for maintaining a healthy smile, whether it’s your first visit, a routine checkup, or a concern that needs attention. At Kemp Dentistry, we provide gentle, thorough exams for patients of all ages. During your visit, we evaluate your teeth, gums, and overall oral health, discuss your concerns, and offer personalized recommendations. An oral cancer screening is also included as part of your comprehensive exam.

Routine checkups help prevent gum disease, reduce plaque and tartar buildup, and catch issues early, saving time and cost on future treatments. Most patients benefit from visits every six months, though frequency may vary based on individual needs. Our goal is to keep your smile healthy through education, preventive care, and a comfortable, patient-focused experience.

DENTAL SEALANTS

Dental sealants are a quick, simple treatment where a tooth-colored coating is applied to the chewing surfaces of teeth. This protective layer seals deep grooves, preventing plaque, food particles, and acids from causing decay in areas that brushing and flossing can’t reach.

The application takes just a few minutes per tooth and can last for years. Sealants are an effective way for both children and adults to reduce the risk of cavities and maintain long-term oral health.

ORAL HYGIENE

Gum disease is a major cause of tooth loss and is caused by plaque buildup along the gum line. Daily brushing and flossing are essential to remove plaque, prevent decay, and keep gums healthy. If you experience discomfort or sensitivity, consult your dentist for proper guidance and care.

Use a soft toothbrush at a 45° angle with gentle strokes, and floss daily to clean between teeth. Support your routine with fluoride products if needed, but don’t replace brushing and flossing. Regular professional cleanings are also important to remove tartar and maintain long-term oral health.

PERIODONTAL MAINTENANCE

Periodontal (gum) disease is an infection that damages the gums and supporting bone, often caused by plaque buildup along the gum line. If not removed through daily brushing and flossing, plaque hardens into tartar and increases the risk of disease. Factors like smoking, diabetes, stress, and poor nutrition can make it worse.

Symptoms include red, swollen, or bleeding gums and the formation of pockets around teeth. Good oral hygiene and regular dental visits are key to prevention, while professional care is needed to stop the disease from progressing.

TEETH CLEANING

Dental prophylaxis is a professional cleaning that removes plaque and tartar from the teeth and gums to help prevent and control gum disease. Even with good brushing and flossing, some buildup can only be removed with specialized dental tools, making regular cleanings essential for maintaining oral health.

Professional cleanings also help improve the appearance of your smile by removing stains and can reduce bad breath caused by bacteria. Most patients benefit from cleanings every six months, while those with gum disease may need them more frequently to help manage and slow its progression.

TOOTH EXTRACTIONS

Tooth extraction may be necessary if a tooth is severely decayed, damaged, infected, or impacted. Dr. Syed Iqbal carefully evaluates each case and discusses alternatives or replacement options to protect your long-term oral health. While the procedure is done under local anesthesia to ensure comfort, you may feel slight pressure during removal.

After extraction, proper care is essential for healing. Bite on gauze to control bleeding, avoid disturbing the blood clot (no rinsing, straws, or smoking for 72 hours), and manage swelling with ice packs. Stick to soft foods, stay hydrated, and take medications as directed. Most discomfort subsides within a few days—contact the office if you experience severe pain, prolonged swelling, or heavy bleeding.
